Makiwara are indispensable training devices for power and the penetration of the various techniques. They are the counterpart of the Western sandbag but function quite differently. The flexible board favor the joints and gives immediately biomechanical feedback about the correctness of a technique. Beginners usually detect a labile wrist or poorly hardened striking surfaces.
