Kumiko
  • room divider
  • lamps
  • decorative elements

Kumiko are geometric patterns and images formed by thin strips and small pieces of wood. They are derived from the thin struts in Shoji and form decorative elements. This craftsmanship is also often used for room dividers, lamps and furniture. Wherever the play of light and shadow continually reveals new facets and patterns.

This craft requires the highest precision and sharp tools and devices, some of which are self-made. Angles must be maintained at 0.5° and connections must be accurate to within 0.1mm. Almost all types of wood can be used in terms of color. For lamps and Shoji, we recommend covering them traditionally with mulberry paper.
